Tennis: Changing Spin and Direction

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Coach feeds balls to the ad side.
  • Player alternates hitting a backhand slice cross-court and a topspin backhand down the line.

COACHING POINTS

  • The player is working on changing the spin and direction of the shots from the backhand side.
  • Using backspin is a great weapon that tests the opponent’s skills in returning a skidding, low bouncing ball.
  • By mixing topspin and backspin backhands in different directions, a player can put a lot of pressure on their rival and force them to return balls that they are able to capitalise on.
