DESCRIPTION

  • Coach feeds three balls to the backhand side.
  • One deep ball, one medium ball and one short ball.
  • Player moves and hits backhand cross-court.
  • Player recovers close to the centre after every ball.


COACHING POINTS

  • The player works on backhand quality after covering varied distances.
  • A lot of players feel good while practicing hitting balls 1-2 meters away from them but their quality drops when they have to cover bigger distances.
  • By changing the distance within the same set, players learn how to adapt to the changing environment and it puts more emphasis on ability to assess the distance, achieve stable position and still control the racket.
  • The coach should remind players to get to the ball as quickly as possible to recover right after the shot to create the habit of finishing the stroke with movement to the proper area on the court.
