Football: Dribble, Drive and Strike

The first attacking player runs into the box, towards the penalty spot. As the attacker makes their run the feeder throws the ball in for a volley or header.

Players pass theball through the square ahead of the player running onto the ball this player then takes a shot from long distance.

Number 2 groups of players from 1-5 and get them to stand on either side of the goal. Call a number. The two players (one from each side) whose number was called race around the cones to enter the area. When a player has entered through the gate the coach feeds the ball to the side where the first player has entered. Player runs onto the ball and tries to score before the other player can make a challenge/block.

Red 1 feeds ball out to the white team who return them first time into the area. The blue team compete in pairs or as individuals, to score. 5 minutes then swap players and positions.

Pass and follow drill with players focusing on hitting the target and practising shooting from both sides. Going alternately players pass up to the feeder on their side who lays the ball off to the side. The player then follows up the ball and shoot on goal. After the shot players collect their ball and join the back of the other line.

Put the players in three lines, each line needs some balls at the front. Player 1 makes a forward run to receive the ball from one of the players in the player 2 line. Player 1 receives the ball and shoots. After player 2 has passed the ball they make a lead run to receive the ball from players in the player 3 line. Player 3, after passing, makes a lead run to receive the ball from player 1. Players should change the line they stand in every time they restart.

1) White 1 stands 10 yards from players. 2) Players pass ball to white 1 and run around the D; - white 1 lays ball off for each player to shoot. 3) Must be a moving ball. 4) Coach - angle of shot - technique and timing.

1) Player 8 plays to player 1 who returns the ballslightly wide. Running onto the wide pass player 8 passes the ball down the side to meet the diagonal run of player 4. 2) Player 4 shoots and player 1 makes a supporting diagonal run to the far post for rebounds.

Player 1 begins with the ball on the 1/2 way line. Player 1 plays the ball into player 2 who lays the ball of to player 3. Player 3 sets the ball up for player 1 to shoot.

Depending on where the pass is played to players must shoot in a particular area of the goal. If the pass is played wide the shot should be driven into the opposite corner of the goal (so a feed to right should be scored in the left corner of the goal). If the pass is central the shooter should not hit the ball with their laces but instead place the ball in a corner of their choice.

White player 1 runs the length of the field at match pace and makes their move to run onto the ball served in by Red player 1. White player should then shoot on goal.

Set out three grids within the area according to the dimensions shown in the above diagram. Play 3 v 1 in each large area, plus a goalkeeper. The 3 blue players combine to dribble the ball past the lone white defender into the midfield area then shoot on the goal. The lone blue player in the other area follows up on rebounds from the goalkeeper. Repeat in the opposite direction. Rotate positions. Progressions: 1. The lone defender can track the attacking player into the midfield area in an attempt to pressure the attacker or block the shot. 2. Change the ratio of attackers to defenders to 3 v 2.

Two lines stand behind a cone, with the defending line standing slightly forward of the attacking line. To start the drill the defender plays the ball in front of the attacker for them to run onto. As soon as the pass is played the drill is live and the attacker must run forward, under pressure from the defender, and shoot once they've entered the 18 yard box.

Players pass to the feeder player who has their back to goal and immediately follow their pass. The feeder controls the ball and waits for the attacker to be within a couple of meters before playing a pass either to the left or the right for them to run onto. Players should react quickly to this late pass and run onto the ball, take no more than two touches and then shoot on goal. An extra player should also position themselves in line with the penalty spot, ready to pounce onto any deflected/ rebounded shots.

Player 1 comes short to receive the ball from player 2; player 1 dummies and spins out left. Player 3 comes to take ball and passes back across for player 1 to shoot. Player 3 then goes to far post for rebounds.

This drill simulates a through pass being played for your attack to run onto and finish in a one vs one show-down with the keeper. The two lines take it in turns to run. The first player passes the ball for the attacker to run onto - once inside the box the attacker should run deeper inside the box and try to get the better of the keeper in a one vs one. After shooting players should collect their ball and run to the back of their feeder's line. The player who played the through pass should follow their pass and join the back of the attacker's line.

Practice starts with a bleu player running to wards the goal player from the white team passes the ball to this player, blue player shoots. next a player from the white team makes a leading run and receives the ball from a player from the red group. next a player from the red group runs and receives the ball from the blue team.

Groups of six. Four balls per group. Position players as shown in the diagram. Repeat in another area for a total of 12 players. Red player 1 passes the ball to red server 3 who passes the ball back into the path of red player 1. Red player 1 shoots low and to the far post. Red player 3 turns and runs to the area at the far post to pick up any rebounds or shots wide of the target. Red player 3 becomes the goalkeeper. Blue goalkeeper goes to the back of the line and blue players 1 and 2 assume the pass and serve positions. Repeat the practice and rotate positions. Save= 5 points; rebound= 3 points; goal= 5 points; shot on target= 3 points. Progression: Make blue player 1 a defender.

Set up two goals, one at either end of the half pitch and two narrow channels (with cones), one to the left and the other to the right of the goals. Players must dribble with the ball using both feet through the channel towards goal. When they are within 15m of the goal they should prepare to shoot, with a shot across the goalkeeper into the far corner.

This game can be played with almost any number of players. In this game the pitch is 50 metres long, split into two 15 metre shooting zones (at both ends) with a 20 metre mid-section. Players are allowed in all areas of the pitch but are only allowed to shoot outside of the 15 metre area.
