Encouraging 1st time shooting by using the correct technique to take the shot early and finish from close range.
Get your knee over the ball and use the pace of the ball to generate the power. By trying to strike the ball too hard, the likelihoood is the accuracy will be poor.
Blue 1 plays ball into area and clue 2 moves in to shoot 1st time. Blue 2 goes to replace blue 1 and blue 1 runs around working area to take blue 2s place.
Dimensions and balls are age specific.
Set up as shown.
Player 1 starts with the ball in the middle of the field and plays a 1-2 pass with player 2 before passing out wide to player 3.
At this point, players 1 and 2 run towards the penalty area, ready to receive a cross, while one of the defenders goes out wide to put pressure on the crosser.
Player 3 will cross the ball into the box where players 1 and 2 will try to beat the defender to it and score.
Crossing and Finishing
Set up two lines of players as show in the image, about 30m from the goals.
The first player dribbles with the ball at pace and then puts their foot on top of the ball, to leave it dead in front of the other player. The first player continues their run around the cone in front of them and then runs back inside the area.
The receiver uses a positive first touch to move into space and then try to finish through one of the wide goals.
The first player should have continued their run and now tries to put pressure on the receiver's shot.
Players must run through the cones with the ball under control.
When they reach the final cone they have one final touch to set the ball and then they must shoot into the far corner.
After shooting players collect the other players' ball and then dribble to the back of the other line.
There are two triangles in this drill, both using the same top point player (player 5).
Players in the top triangle pass in an anti-clockwise direction and players in the lower triangle pass in a clock-wise direction.
Both pairs of players must use the middle player as their third passing option.
Passing and Receiving
This game can be played with almost any number of players. In this game the pitch is 50 metres long, split into two 15 metre shooting zones (at both ends) with a 20 metre mid-section. Players are allowed in all areas of the pitch but are only allowed to shoot outside of the 15 metre area.
Players set up in 2 lines with one central player who feeds you the ball. The ball must be struck first time. The other player follows in for a rebound.
Groups of six. Position players as shown in the diagram. One server and one attacker on each side of the goal with a single defender to the side of the goal. Repeat in another area for a total of 12 players. Player 1 passes ball into space in front of player 2. Player 2 one touches and shoots on goal. As soon as player 2 touches the ball, the defender may move to challenge the shot. Repeat the practice in the opposite direction. Rotate positions. Progression: When player 2 touches the ball, player 1 may move in to challenge the shot from behind.

Player 1 plays a through pass down the line for player 2 to run onto. When player 2 reaches the pass and gets the ball under control they then cross the ball into the centre, along the floor or in the air, for player 3 to run onto and finish.
Players run forward, receive the pass from behind and then dribble through the cones. On reaching the final cone players take one touch to tee themselves up and then shoot.
Play 3 v 2 in the larger area and play 1 v 1 with a goalkeeper in the smaller(attacking) area. Red player 1 starts with the ball. The 3 red players in the larger area combine to pass the ball into the attacking area. The player who passes the ball into the area follows the ball into the attacking zone to make a 2 v 1 situation. Finish with a shot on goal. Rotate positions. Progression: Play 6 v 5 in an open 30 x 50 yard field.
Position players in pairs and singles in the zones as shown in the diagram. Players must stay in their respective areas. Goalkeepers can throw or kick the ball into any area. The object of the game is for defenders (lone players) to pass to attackers(pairs) who attempt to shoot on goal. If a defensive player blocks the path to goal, the player in possession should pass the ball to a teammate in a better scoring position. Change positions after a period of time or after a goal is scored by either team. Progressions: 1. Add players for groups of 2 and 3. 2. Add more balls for younger players. 3. Make it 2 touch for older players.
Receiving the ball and either turning out or in to have a shot at goal
Create a halfway line in the area using discs. Store soccer balls behind each goal. Play 4 v 1 in each half with a goalkeeper. The goalkeeper serves the ball to any of his teammates in his half. They must get a shot on the goal in the opposite field. The lone player in that area is a defender trying to block the shot. The lone player in the opposite area is the cherry picker, following in on the goalkeeper for rebounds. Repeat in the opposite direction. Progression: Take away the halfway line and progress to a full field game of 6 v 6.
