Players set up about 10-15 feet apart as shown in video.
Players must follow their pass to the next passing position. The final (4th) pass will to a player who complete the move by shooting a lay-up.
The drill then continues in the same way, with each player having moved on one position.
Look for receivers to have their hands open and ready for the passers to make straight line accurate passes.
You can add in more basketballs once players understand the rotations.
Players start out in the corner on either side of the court.
Set up 2 cones in front of the players. The 1st cone 15 ft away. The 2nd cone 30 ft away. There will also be a chair 18-20 ft away from the basket.
Players dribble to the 1st cone and perform a change of direction dribble.
Player then dribbles around the 2nd cone and then dribbles at speed towards the chair.
When they reach the chair they should quickly change direction, move and attack the basket where they will finish with a lay-up.
One player starts in front with another behind, with a ball. The player in front has to hold up some fingers for the dribbling player to call out. Change roles after 1 minute.
2 team of players try to touch a nominated player with the ball.
The player that does manage to touch the player with the ball becomes the next player to try and avoid the ball from touching them.
To perfect the set shot let's start without the basket.
The hand should start cocked back, with the ball slightly in front of you.
As you shoot bend your knees, spring up and unfold your arm so that it straightens and flick your wrist to put back spin on the shot.
You should finish up on your toes.
One of the players starts with the ball After passing the ball to the player on the next cone they have to run and touch the cone in the middle and return to their cone. the 2nd player does the same and the exercise should be able to continue round and round.
Player starting with the ball has to have an empty cone to one of their sides. After passing the ball to the player on the next cone they have to run and touch the cone in the middle and run out to the empty cone. The 2nd player does the same and the exercise should be able to continue round and round.
Straight passing and diagonal running. 4 groups of players with two balls (see diagram). O1 with balls pass to the other side and runs diagonally to opposite group and continue.
Players set up as shown in the diagram. The player who makes the first pass, will run around the outside of the circle and back to their original spot. The rest of the players in the circle will pass the ball around. If the person running gets around the circle and back to their original spot before the ball gets there they are the winners.
Two groups of players, each group with one ball. Two players are standing opposite the groups at the distance approx. 4 metres. O1 and O2 pass to opposite players and goes to opposite group and continue.
Players dribble around the court and pass the ball in sequence e.g. 1 passes to 2, then 2 passes to 3 etc. Make sure that players do not bump into other teams.
3 Players with one ball. Player 1 passes to Player 3 who runs into space. Players are continue passing to each other and then running into open space.
Players and cones will be set out as shown in animation. Player 1 will pass to player 2. After Player 1 passes they will cut down towards the baseline, after a few steps they will cut back across towards the ball where they will receive a pass where they will catch and shoot. Player 1 will get the rebound and pass the ball out to player 2. Player 2 will pass the ball to the player at the front of the line and will join the back. Player 1 will become the next passer
Players will set out as shown in the animation. The top line will have a basketball. The first player in the line will pass to the person on the right wing. After making the pass the player will run and set a screen for the player on the left wing. The player will curl around off the screen for a short shot. The player who shoots will get the rebound and pass the ball back out to the line at the top. That player will then run out to the right win and become the next passer.
Players and cones set out as shown in animation. The basketball will be passed from the line at the top to the player stood in the corner. Once the player in the corner has the ball, the player in the top line will run around the cone and towards the side of the free-throw line where they will catch the ball and shoot. The player that shoots the ball will get their own rebound and pass to the player in the corner. Who will then pass to the next player without a ball in the top line. After the player rebounds, he becomes the next passer in the corner.
Two groups of players with one ball and one player between the groups on the side. Player 1 passes to player 3 and runs straight to receive a pass from player 3, during this time player 2 makes a run and then receives a hand off pass from player 1. Player 2 then makes a pass to player 4.
5 Players with two basketballs. The players are passing the ball around the pentagon. The receiver must step towards the ball, pivot and face another player and pass the ball.
Players will set up as shown in the animation. With the basketball starting in the corner line. The ball will be passed from the corner to the line at the top. Once passed that player will run towards the free-throw line and receive the ball back. When that pass has been made, the player from the top line will run around the cone and towards the basket where they will receive the ball for a shot. Players will switch lines.
This is a simple drill to improve the speed of passing of players.
Players work in pairs and move around the court, trying to keep dribbling to a minimum. Before being allowed to make a pass the ball must pass through a gate, the next player must then also pass the ball back through a gate of the other colour. Players progress like this until they have made 6 passes.
6 Players in a circle with 2 players in the middle of the circle. The outide players start jogging around the circle and throw the ball into the middle to one of the players they continue jogging around before the middle player throws the ball back to another player. Introduce another ball into the practice.
Player 3 runs to the middle of the line before receiving a pass from player 1. On receiving the ball they pivot and pass the ball to player 4 before running to join the end of the queue.
Players will set out as shown in animation. The player in the line at the top will dribble down towards the 3 point line. As the player at the top is dribbling, the player at the front of the other line will cut around the cones towards the middle of the free-throw line. The player will catch and shoot the ball. After the player shoot, they will get their own rebound, dribble around and pass it to the next player in the top line. The passer and the shooter will switch lines.
Simple passing technique. 2 Players with 1 ball 4m apart. Start with a chest pass, then bounce pass and then overhead pass. The receiver must pull the ball into their hip to protect the ball from their opponents.
Players line up parallel with the sidelines. Depending on the level of your players you can start with one or two basketballs. If using two balls one player should use a chest pass with the other using a bounce pass to avoid the balls hitting in mid-air. Duration of the each drill is 1 minute. 1. Start off with simple chest passing to each other whilst jogging on the spot. After a little while change the type of pass to a bounce pass. 2. Same as above, this time alternating the types of pass, throwing one chest and one bounce pass. 3. Players must move from one sideline to the other whilst maintaining the same distance between one another. Move the ball between one another by using simple chest passes whilst jogging. After about a minute repeat this stage using bounce passes. 4. Increase and decrease the distance between the players and move from sideline to sideline. Simple chest passes to each other whilst jogging. When both players are at the sideline, they might use a javelin or baseball pass to each other. After use bounce passes. After use exercises 2 and 3.
