Basketball: Line 3 - Out of Bounds Play

DESCRIPTION

First player basket cuts and clears out to the opposite side of the floor.
Second player steps into his defender then pops out to the corner.
Third player looks like he is about to cut down the middle then changes direction and screens away for the fourth player to cut to the basket.

COACHING POINTS

Inbounder should never rush to get the ball off the referee on the baseline.
4 players on court need to set up in a straight line from where the ball is going to be inbounder making sure that they are as close as possible so defenders can't get inbetween the line.
Inbounder will slap the ball when he has it off the referee, sees that everyone is in position and then is ready to initiate movement.
Every movement needs to be done at a game speed giving the impression it is a scoring movement.
Timing is key, player shouldn't move until the player before them as executed their part of the out of bounds play.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Line 1 - Out of Bounds Play

First player basket cuts and then clears out.
Second player pops out to the corner.
Third player dives straight to the ball.
Fourth player either pops out to the top as the safety or looks for the pass when he pops out to the wing.

Passing

Line 2 - Out of Bounds Play

First player pops straight to the corner.
Second and third player face forward then on the slap turn inwards to screen.
Fourth player steps into his defender then cuts hard behind the screen for the jumpshot.

Passing

3 on 3 Rebound Drill

Coach has the ball.
Players are moving as if in a game.
Coach will toss ball on backboard.
Defensive players must box out and rebound.
Offensive players try to rebound and score.

Rebound

Lead Pass

One player stands on each cone with a fifth player standing between two of the players, with the ball in hand.

The player in front of the player in possession should set off on a lead run and receive the pass from the fifth player.

After running onto the pass the next player in the square should make a lead run, looking to receive the next pass.

After passing players should continue to run until they reach the unoccupied cone.
