Blindside Wing

Moving the ball along the line this play sees 11 run up behind 10 to support the line and blind side the opposition. 10 plays a pop pass for 11 to run onto.

4 cones with 2 balls.Players start running at the same time and when the meet in the middle, the blue players give a drop off pass to the red player before both continuing their run to the opposite end to which they started.

Set up the practice as shown inside a 30m x 30m Grid. 6 Shields and 1 Ball. Player 1 carries the ball before passing the ball to player 2 who bursts through the shields. Once through the other side, 2 passes to 3 and receives a return pass before bursting through the next set of shields Once they are through the last two players with shields can move and try and block the runners. Player 2 has the option to pass to either player or go it alone.

The pitch is divided into two halves The defenders must start at opposite corners of the pitch The attacker must have at least one player in either half. The middle player starts with the ball.

3 player circuit Warm up - Rug...

This practice is set out with a inner square and a outer square. The players in their groups of 3 stand between the lines of the inner square with the working group stood inside the other players. The first group of 3 starts to run across the grid passing the ball. When they reach the centre the ball is put down and they then run at a players with the pads on their left each pushing their player to the outer square. The players then swap. The pad players run across to the tackle bags and push and tackle the bags to the outer square. Players swap again now the new 3 players (third group) run to the ball pick it up and take the ball turn right to face the 3 players on the 12 o'clock side of the square and run into contact for the ball carrier to present the ball. This ball is then picked up by the 3 players being pushed back and the drill starts again.

Two balls, 1 with Player A the other with player E. On the command Player A passes to B who in turn passes to Player C. At the same time Player E passes F. Once the players have passed the ball they then swap with the opposite player. Player A swaps with Player E. Player B swaps with Player F. Player C with Player G. Player D with H. Its important that players only swap once they have passed the ball and only pass it when a player is in position to receive it.

Lets get the ball and the players moving with lateral passing through the hands. Each training area only needs one ball, and that ball should start with the any of the two players at the very ends of the L. Tell players to move forward, passing the ball down the line. When the ball gets to the last receiver, that player will pass it to the first receiver in the next line that is waiting to go. They should advance right away. Allow the players to simply move the ball down the line.

As the ball carrier is walking the defender should time their move so that they in the correct position to tackle when the player is in front of them. At this point the tackler should wrap their arms tightly around the other player's knees, position their head behind their bum and drive with their shoulder to bring the player to the ground. Falling to their bum before rolling onto their shoulder, once on the floor the other player should place the ball above their head on the ground.

All other players must draw defender towards them before releasing pass. 3) First player goes for 2 handed touch on ball carrier shorts. 4) Change order so that another player defends.

How do I stop my players hogging the ball?

I just started coaching an u/10's mod league team this year, my first ever coaching attempt. We played a trial a few weeks ago and won 32 to 14, yesterday they played their first round against a much larger pack than themselves and lost 46 to 6. We have some good talent and some not so good talent in our team. When they played yesterday the good talent hogged and dominated the plays and barely gave the not so talented a run.(Unfair) They didn't listen to the instructions I gave my trainers during the game and argued all throughout. How do I, 1 Stop the Hogs being Hogs? 2 Stop them arguing with each other on field and 3 Make them listen to my instruction through the trainers? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Defence drill ideas for my U8's?

Hi,Just wanted some ideas on drills for Under 8's to teach defence. For example we set all kids up in a line but as soon as the other team play the ball all kids run up and try to tackle. It is great enthusiasm shown by the kids however they are unable to reset into a line which means as soon as the other team plays the ball there is big open gap that they other team can get through.
