Barrier Catch (side view)

Approach the ball at speed and as you get into line with the ball, twist your upper body, leading with the shoulder furthest from the ball. Bend both knees, so that the knee of the leg nearest to the ball touches the ground, but it is also next to the back of the heel of the other leg. With fingers down and head forward, pick up the ball and then stand back up ready to deliver an overarm throw.

In 3s or 4s one closer player puts a name on the ball and the other fielder backs up behind. Player who made the call decides either long barrier or short pick up to get the ball in quickly

Ground Fielding

Pick up and turn to throw to post

1) runs out and picks up the stationary ball and throws over top to 2). 2) rolls the ball back out to 1), 1) gathers with barrier and replaces it and joins the back of the queue. When 1) tags 2), 2) then goes, 3) takes up position by post. This can be done in a race against another group.

Pick up on turn and throw to run out station Batter (carrying bat) (1) calls YES and tries to run 2 lengths whilst fielder (1) runs out to stationary ball, picks it up and throws it to the player at the post , thus trying to run out B(1). Player at post throws ball back to F(1) who replaces ball on the ground for next fielder. 1 replaces the fielder by the post

In 3’s. 2 feeders and one worker. Feeder one feeds the ball by rolling it along the ground to land in-between the cones where the worker starts from. Worker picks up the ball and gives it in one movement back to the feeder. They then turn and receive the ball from feeder 2 who does the same. Players work in groups of 5, in a grid with 5 cones set up in a zig-zag formation, roughly 7 metres apart.Each player stands on a cone. All players, except for those queueing behind the first cone require balls.On the coach's call player 1, on the first cone, aims to get to collect the ball that has been dropped from shoulder height by the player on the cone in front of them, before the ball bounces twice.This is one pick-up.Player 1 then gives the ball back to the player on the cone, and sets themself before the coach gives the next call.Again the working player aims to get to the next ball before second bounce.This process is repeated until all players have performed 4 pick-ups.

Set Up: Players work in groups of 3 with 2 balls. Players A, B and C should be spread out over 20m, with player C standing in the centre between 2 cones. <hr /> The Drill: Player A rolls the ball between the cones towards player C. Player C moves towards the ball, picks it up and releases it underarm back to player A. Player C then turns and repeats the drill from player B. Player C to work for 30 seconds then rotate i.e A to C, C to B, and B to A.

Players work in pairs, with a ball between two, both facing the same direction.The player at the back must throw a looping ball over their partner's head, aiming to throw the distance no further than 10 metres.Upon seeing the ball pass over them the fielding player must run out and try to catch the ball as quickly as possible. Once they have the ball in hand they should throw it back to their partner.Repeat 5 times then swap over.

This is a relay for players to learn to react to balls that don't come directly towards them. In Groups of 4, with one feeder and 3 players stood in a line players take it in turns to run out and react to the ball that's been thrown wide of them. Once the ball's been thrown fielders must run out and gather the ball, before then throwing it back to the feeder and running to the back of the line, waiting for their next turn.

Divide the main group into smaller groups of 4 and set up as shown. The ball is thrown to the fielders (person in the middle) right or left for them to dive onto the mats. The two players behind the mats are back-up fielders.

When the ball is hit into the right field between the 1st post and the back line. it is important that fielder 4 tries to gather the ball and player 5 covers this fielder in case player 4 misses it. At player 1  runs to 2nd post and player 2 runs to 4th post. covered by player 8 and 9 respectively. This will give the fielder gathering the ball the option of throwing to 1st post if ball was hit short to 2nd post if ball was hit long and to 4th post if the ball was missed and picked up by covering fielder or miss throw to 2nd post.

Players take it in turns to run out to the rolling ball, bend down, pick it up and then turn and throw it back to their partner. When picking up the ball players should aim to put their non-throwing side foot on the outside of the ball. A right-hander would place their left foot to the outside of the ball. They would then bend down, twist as they stand up and then throw back.

Then your partner will throw back to you.Repeat the process.

The ball is placed in the middle of the playing area. The first player (3) runs in, picks the ball up and does an under arm flick to the opposite player (1). The receiving player catches the ball and then runs back into the middle where they put the ball down again before joining the back of the opposite queue. As the player (1) joins he back of the line they tag the next player (4) and the drill continues.

Players stand in a circle with 1 or 2 balls (there are 2 in the video). They have to throw the ball to each other and every time one of them makes a mistake they have to drop down on one knee. On the second mistake they have to drop down onto both knees and with the third mistake they are out. Who will be the last player standing/ kneeling?

Is it okay as a batter, to sprint to first base and knock it over rather than slowing down to place your bat on the post gently? You would obviously pick it up and then remain in contact so long as you haven't turned the corner to make for second base. This would also help the umpire to see who got there first.
