MORE DRILLS

Get Up and Set

Players start by lying on their back on the baseline. When the coach whistles, they quickly get up and overhand pass the ball to themselves while moving forwards and backwards from the net.

10 Setting Drills

Jump Set

This drill can be performed in pairs, or players can perform it individually against a wall. Players set the ball either to their partner or against the wall, and alternates between setting while standing on their feet, and setting with a jump.

10 Setting Drills

Lay and Set

This drill can be performed in pairs, or players can perform it individually against a wall. Players lay on their front and overhand pass the ball to each other, with players aiming to get as many passes between each other without the ball touching the floor.

10 Setting Drills

Bump & Set - Zone 6

The ball is served to player 1, who is standing in zone 6. Player 1 then digs up the ball (a) to player 2 (standing close to the net in zone 2). Player 3 then throws the ball (b) from zone 4 to player 1 who has to either bump or set the ball (c) depending on the way the ball is fed to them. Player 2 then feeds the ball (d) to player 1, who again either has to bump or set the ball (e). After a set number of repetitions of the previous steps, player 1 must set the ball (f) from Zone 6 to Zone 4 for a spike (g).

10 Setting Drills

Dig, spike and block imitation

Starting on the attack line, the players imitate a dig. Then, they jog forward to perform a spike movement. On landing they then move forward to the net to perform a block movement, land and jog backwards to their starting point on the attack line.

10 Setting Drills

Glued to the Line

Players walk around the court stepping on the lines, so walking towards the net, then across the net, then back again. While doing this, they are overhand passing the ball in the air.

10 Setting Drills

Jump Over The Ball

Players start on one side of the court and have a ball in their hands, and another in the middle of the court. They overhand pass the ball in their hands forward so that it drops on the other side of the laying ball. The players then run, jump over the ball and underhand pass the ball back to a teammate who will be waiting at the starting position. The next player will then do the drill.

10 Setting Drills

Mirror Setters

Two players stand in the middle of the court with their backs facing each other. Meanwhile, two players are on the outside of the court, either side of the players in the middle. The ones in the middle set the ball to the outside and then switch places with the other player in the middle, but keep their backs facing each other.

10 Setting Drills

One Leg Passing

Players work in pairs with a ball between them. They underhand pass the ball to each other but while standing on one foot only. Players can move but can only do this by jumping on one foot, with the other in the air.

10 Setting Drills

Overhand Pass and Quarter Turn

Players work in pairs and stand across the court from each other. One player starts with the ball and overhand passes the ball high in the air. While the ball is in the air, the player makes a quarter turn and sets again before turning again. The player keeps doing this until they have made a 360 turn, at which point they set to their teammate who does the same.

10 Setting Drills

Overhand-Underhand Mixing

Players work in pairs and stand across the court from each other. One player starts with the ball and overhand passes the ball high in the air to their teammate. The teammate then sets the ball in the air above their head, digs it on the way down, and then sets the ball back to their teammate who does the same thing.

10 Setting Drills

Pass And Cross Centre Line

Two players stand on attack lines at either side of the net, while a third player stands between them at the net. One of the players at the attack line passes the ball and then receives it back from the player in the middle, who now crosses the centre line, ducking under the net, before doing the same with the other player.

10 Setting Drills

Pass And Run

Working in pairs, one player passes the ball and runs around their teammate before returning to their original position. The teammate then does the same.

10 Setting Drills

Pass And Run Quickly

Players work in pairs and stand across the court from each other. One player starts with the ball and overhand passes the ball high in the air to their teammate. The teammate then overhead passes the ball in the air continuously while the teammate accelerates, runs around the other player and returns to their starting position to receive the ball back, where the teammate will now do the same thing.

10 Setting Drills

Pass High To Get Up

Players work in pairs, sitting on the floor, with a ball between them. Their task it to receiver the ball overhand, pass it high and get up to pass the ball back.

10 Setting Drills

Pass Over The Net And Set

The player starts in the opponent's zone 3 and overhand passes the ball over the net to zone 3 on the other side of the court. They then move under the net before setting the ball directly to a target. The target can be anything from another player, to a cone, or even to a netball ring as shown in the video.

10 Setting Drills

Pass Short And Long

Players work in threes with one player in the middle. A player from the outside sets to the middle player before receiving the ball back. The middle player now turns 180 degrees and the player with the ball passes to the players at the other side of the court. Players on the outside set the ball once to the middle and then to the other side.

10 Setting Drills

Pass Short And Long Progression

Players work in threes with one player in the middle. A player from the outside sets to the middle player who sets the ball backwards to the player on the other line.

10 Setting Drills

Pass, Jump And Set

Players work in pairs with a ball between them, starting in a squat position. They pass the ball high, jump, and set it to their teammate who repeats this.

10 Setting Drills

Play On Both Sides

Players work in threes starting from a dig and each of them assigns a role: receiver, setter and spiker. As soon as the receiver digs the ball, they run under the net to change the side of the court. Every player changes side when they hit the ball, with the spiker being the last player to move over.
