DESCRIPTION

Off the ball screen, practiced in a closed situation.

In threes players set up in a triangle.

player at the top passes the ball in either direction then sets the screen the opposite way. in the diagram 1 passes to 3 and sets a screen for player 2. 2 curls round towards the basket and receives a pass from player 3 to shoot a lay-up. collects the lay up and passes to either player and sets the a screen.

COACHING POINTS

Setting the screen:
good posture feet more than shoulder width apart
very slight lean forward weight on balls of yor feet screening angle is making a right angle to the direction of the cut.
Arms can either be crossed over chest or straight down with hands together.
Coming off the screen: Player coming off the screen must not move until the screen has been set. they then must brush shoulders with the person setting the screen and curl towards the basket.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Three man switch to shoot and score:

Player 1 starts with the ball in the middle of the court and plays the ball to player 2 who cuts in to the first cone.

Player 2 must then pass to player 3 who has also made a run inside to the other cone further up the court.

Player 1 in the meantime should loop on the outside behind player 2 to receive the ball back from player 3 and take a shot.

Shooting

Off the screen shooting drill:

Setup the practice as shown.

Player 3 runs into the arc and runs off the screen created by player 2 before receiving the ball from player 1, turning and then shooting.

Player 3 then collects the ball and returns the ball back to player 1.

Screening

Setting a Screen:

Player 1 with the ball. Player 2 sets the screen at either side of the defender. When the screen is set player 1 fakes to the opposite side then crosses back to rub shoulders with the screener, before dribbling past and either taking a shot or a lay up.
