Set up as shown. Nine zones with four goals (one on each corner). Team in possession must cross the square diagonally and score in the far goal (opposite corners). Defending team try to win ball and score in other two goals opposite each other.
Players are locked into the box they choose until they have received the ball and played a pass. Defenders locked into their starting boxes.
In possession:
- Creative movement in a small area when locked in box. How can space be created to receive past defender?
- Creative decision making: where can you move after passing the ball to best support your teammates?
- Communication and organising an attacking shape: how can you organise your team to have the greatest success against static (locked in) defenders?
Out of possession:
- Defensive team shape: when you’re locked in, how does that affect your team shape from the start?
- Pressing: how can a press be played when locked into the areas? How can you win the gall back?
- Communication and organisation: how can you orgamise the team to maintain pressue, cover, balance?
