DESCRIPTION

Set Up

On a half size football field use a central possession grid of 35x25yrds between the 18yrd box and half way line.

Mark out two wide channels that adjoin the central area that are 15x25yrds. (30-35 mins) 13 players.  8vs5 (+GK).

Possition 3 Attacking Midfielders and a forward in the center for the attacking team.

In the wider areas position one wing forward and one full back

Fot the defensive team start with 2 Center backs and 1 defensive midfielder (progress to 2) in the center,  with a full back either side.

Instructions

2 teams compete.  The blue (attacking team) attempts to score in the full size goal.
The red team attempts to regain possession and dribble across the end line where the coach is positioned.

The coach starts play by passing to an attacking player in the 4vs3 zone.

Rules

Players cannot leave their initial zone until the ball leaves the central grid.

Supporting Fullbacks may enter into the 1vs1 channels when play is developing and can stay in the 1v1 channels for no longer than 6 seconds before returning back.
If the move breaks down they must return quickly.

Fullbacks can step into the central grid for overlap but must return to either 1v1 grid or their position after their pass.

Wingers/Second Strikers can enter the central grid to offer 1 -2 Oppertunies but must either:

1)Return to the 1 v 1 grid they came from
2) Make a through run on goal
3)Swap possitions with another forward.
Note: Theseinside movements are useful for dragging the marking defender out of position, giving the Fullback opportunity to overlap.

Offside applies behind the grids.

Progression

Start with 1 defensive midfielder (switch between 2 at 3 min intervals) then increase to 2.

Require a minimum of 3 passes before playing out to another grid or into tthe finishing area.

2 touch in the central possession grid.
