7v4 overload possession

Very good interactive coaching drills.

DESCRIPTION

Trying to move the ball from side to side through the centre player. Paint the picture – player (1) is CB or goalie trying to get ball to striker (7). Imagine wide players are full backs, wide midfielders or wingers.

Rules –

Players on outside must stay on outside to start with – however they should be encouraged to create angles to make game more realistic.
4 in middle try to get ball then score into small yellow goals.
Rotate orange bibs every 3 minutes.
Every time the striker is hit, within 2 passes of the middle players pass, a goal is scored for white team.

Progressions –

Allow players to come in and create realistic overlaps and also overloads in centre – however max 2/3 in at once.
Minimise touches for outside players or inside players.
Add in small goals behind the striker 10 yards away must turn and shoot with 2 touches.

COACHING POINTS

Body shape when receiving pass.
Movement off the ball from all other players.
Focus on decision making of passes as well as movement of players.
Lifting the head early to minimise time to play pass.
Encourage talking to allow for players to know where team mates are - also the defensive 4 should talk when and where to press where and shape when not pressing.
