Shielding the Ball

DESCRIPTION

  • The Players in 2's take turn in shielding the ball. 5 seconds each and switch.
  • The defenders are passive

Progress:

  • The defenders become semi-passive and put more pressure on the shielding player.

Coaching Points:

  • Have the ball as far away from the defender as possible
  • Get body in between player and ball (side on to ensure it is the furthest distance)
  • One leg controls the ball, while the other pushes the opponent as far as possible
  • The knees and hips are slightly bent whilst the arm is used to shield the player
