GK Warmup Phase One

DESCRIPTION

Handling & Stretching.

Setup:

  • 3 cones in a triangle 2 feet apart.

Exercise:

  • GK moves around from the rear cone mixing clockwise & anti clockwise directions.
  • GK performs rep
  • Move back out in opposite direction to rear cone.
  • Repeat each rep 5 times per GK.
  • Younger GK's work with a Coach and alternate reps between GK's to ensure serve quality.

Reps:

  1. 2 touch passing with feet.
  2. Mid-level serves (knees to chin)
  3. High-level serves (forehead to high catch)
  4. Low-level serves (knees to toes)
  5. Mixed serves.

Stretching:

Intersperse DYNAMIC stretching between each group of reps. Make these GK specific -

  • Arms
  • Shoulders
  • Back
  • Legs

 

COACHING POINTS

Focus on GK handling accuracy - SUCCESS IS KEY.

Serves should be aimed at the GK.

Serves should be thrown for younger GK's and short dropkick for U12 upwards.
