Football: Reflexes in Two Goals

DESCRIPTION

• Two goals positioned 90 degrees with a space between. 
• Server 1 positioned between the near post of each goal with half the balls. 
• Server 2 diagonally opposite at right angles to both goalkeepers. 
• Server 3 has the other half of the balls and is positioned diagonally opposite server 1, in the far corner from both goals. 
• Server 1 plays the ball into server 2 who can play the ball into either goal with a first time shot. 
• Server 3 then shoots at the goalkeeper who did not get the initial shot from server 2.
• Keep goalkeepers the same and rotate the servers. 

NOTES:

• Make sure server 2 plays the ball first time and that server 3 is ready to shoot at the second goalkeeper straight away. 
• Players not working to retrieve the balls so there is always a good supply.

COACHING POINTS

• Goalkeeper should always turn in from the post. 
• Goalkeeper's first movement should be a turn and then step forward into set position. 
• The goalkeeper should react and not anticipate where the shot is going and not dive if they do not need to. 
• Check the goalkeepers hand position is not too high or too low so they can deal with the shot.

PROGRESSION

• Initially start with service into the goalkeeper's hands and then progress to full shots.
• Goalkeeper to switch goals after every set so they get used to turning in from each near post.
