DESCRIPTION

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON*

  • 3 goalkeepers start in a gate each and 3 servers serving to one gate each.
  • Servers all play the ball in at the same time, volley or throw in.
  • Goalkeeper to catch and return to same server.
  • Goalkeeper then finds a different gate to receive a shot from.

COACHING POINTS

  • Check set position weight forward- is the goalkeeper getting set in time?
  • Goalkeeper off the heels.
  • Check hand position is forward and away from the body. Elbows should also be away from the body to create a triangle, allowing the goalkeeper to take the power out of the shot.
  • The goalkeeper should get a balanced base to be able to make the catch if hit around the body.
  • Body should be at 90 degrees to server.
  • If the ball is hit outside the line of the body, make sure the goalkeeper does not turn the shoulder over the top, this will cause over-rotation and therefore the wrong hand position.

PROGRESSION

  • Work the goalkeeper -high to low shots
  • Throw ball
  • Off the ground then volley and to half volley
