Game Title: Wings win games
Setup: Using a half field, play a line of cones 10 yards from each sideline. Make a goal on both ends. (Goalkeepers optional)
Rule: If players are able score a goal where the build up starts from a wide area, whether it’s a player receiving in the channel or dribbling into the wide area reward them with 3 goals instead of 1.
Coaches goal: Get team used to using the wings a spreading out the field. When the wings feed in the ball, players must receive the ball well and position to advance/shoot the ball.
Coaching points:
- receive the ball under control and change direction
- look for support
- Watch how playing wide stretches out the play and creates space for opportunities
Progressions:
- If a team can switch the ball from one wings to another add a point
- if everyone touches the ball add a point
- Cross to header adds an extra point, or cross to one-touch shot adds an extra point
