Using our standard setup to defend our own thrid when a full back has possessio.
Back 4, always stay narrow until the ball is played to the winger, this is when our full back engages their wide player. When our full back enagages, what happens:
- DM drops between the CB's, so either CB can push wider if needed, but we also then defend the box in numbers.
- CM - drops into DM
- AM - drops into CM
Attacking 4 players are to press the postions of the oppositions defence, splitting the lines rather than get tight. They are to make it tough for the defence to play out from the back.
Key role for the AM, make sure that the deepest opposition midfielder can not get the ball. The AM and two wingers drop once the ball has bypassed them into our midfield / defence to get goalside.
- Potional discipline
- dont dive in up top, we press harder when they face their own goal.
- Communicate, example, if DM drops between CB's then he must talk to the CM and AM to drop too. The front four must talk as they press to make sure they cover all spaces.
- Stay patient, let them have the ball across the back line, just make it hard to play forwards.
- When we win posession, work hard to support the forwards
- When we loose possession, every players job to get set postionally.
- The idea of allowing the opposition to have the ball at the back, but make it hard to play forward is to give our defence unit the time to get organised and set.
- Players have as much freedom as they like when we attack, full backs give more width, front 4 can interchange as much as they like, however, when the play breaks down, we must work hard to get back into postion.
