DESCRIPTION

The practice area can be adjusted to suit the age and ability of the players.

As a rough guide junior players: 25m x 30m. Senior players add 10m.

Two goals, a goalkeeper in each. On either side of the goal area, 8 players (4 blues & 4 yellows) from opposing teams facing the area (see diagram).

Both teams also have a player wide on the half way line. A wide player in blue starts the practice by collecting the ball and setting off down the flank.

As soon as this player touches the ball forward then two of the blue team starting from the sides of the goal set off, making direct or switching runs, searching for an aerial cross to head at the goal. Immediately after that attempt the two blue strikers start the second part of the exercise, turning to face the opposite goal. The pair advance ready to receive a cross from the other wide player in blue once again heading at the target.

A good cross is essential, but whether high or low the attackers must attempt to head for goal.

The practice then continues with the first pair in yellow working at the same technique.

Physical - Jumping, Running, Turning

Technical - Accuracy, aim of header (low), crossing

Tactical - Positioning, Movement

Psychological - Concentration, Composure, Communication
