Back Rock to Straddle Stand

Sit on platform in long sit position. Rock back on to shoulders. Rock forward placing hands, with fingers forward, on to the platform between legs. Keep legs extended in straddle position. Push on hands and stand into 'star' shape.

Forward Roll from Platform

Kneel on the platform with hands on the mats and at the base of the platform. Sraighten legs and roll on to shoulders and back.

Start on all fours kneeling Lift hips to straighten legs and drag the feet over the mat until the shoulders pass over the hands. Roll over on to shoulders and back to stand.

Gymnast stands holding arms horizontal. Gymnast back rocks in tuck position. Gymnast rocks forward stretching arms horizontally forward. Support grasps hands and pulls gymnast to stand

Forward Roll Progression

Kneeling on a platform with hands flat on the mats raise the hips by staightening the legs and walk forward on the toes pushing the hips high. As the shoulders pass over the hands rock forward allowng the hips to pass over the hands. Finish in long sit position.

The pupil kneels on an inclined padded bench and extends their legs to raise the hips. By walking on the toes towards the hands the shoulders pass over the hands and the pupil rolls over their head on to their shoulders and back. The roll is completed in a long sit position.

Forward Roll Straddle Progresion

The pupil kneels with hands down on gently inclined padded benches. The legs are extended and straightened so that the shoulders move above the hands. The pupil rolls on to their shoulders and back. As the weight is taken on the back the pupil adopts the straddle position and stands with a leg each side of the benches.

On a gently inclined padded bench the pupil forward rolls but keeps their legs straight in a 'staddle' position. By placing their hands inbetween their legs, on completion of the roll, they push on the hands, take the body weight forward, and stand with feet astride the benches.

Gymnast forward rolls in tuck position. To aid stand gymnast reaches forward and grasps supports hands. Gymnast pulls on supports hands to gain stand position.

Starting from platform position, raise the hips and roll theshoulders forward. Roll on to the back opening legs to straddle postion. Place hands inbetween legs, with straight arms, pushing hard to gain standing wide shape.
