Player, England

DESCRIPTION

Set Up Depending on the number of players you have.Set up a cone inbetween the halfway line and the line of the goal keeper area. Set up small goals just infront of the goal mouth. (1 Per line). Instructions Have your attacking players dribble towards your defending players. Your defending players do not tackle, but practice side on pressing a player. If the defender keeps the attacker from scoring within 10 seconds he earns a point. Progression Show attacking player onto weaker foot. Have two attacking players and defender needs to show them away from the goal.

COACHING POINTS

Look for players who are "square on" infront of their attacking counterpart. This practice is to coach this out of them as it makes it easier for the dribbling player to attack them left or right side. When jockying or holding up a player, the defender needs to be side on so they can move their feet and reposition or engage in a run back if necessary. Teach defending player to have arm out and use this as a measurement (keep arms length) when pressing the attacker so that he does not dive in making it easier for a tricky player. Ensure defending player does not spread his legs too far apart so as to give the attacker the chance to "meg" him.
