This exercise focuses on quickly pressing the ball when the ball transitions from BP to BPO. The yellow bibs work together to press the ball and the non-bibs try to play the ball from 2 at one end to the 2 at the other. The area is divided into 3 sections to represent the ball travelling from defense to attack. The 3 players in the middle represent a midfield 3 (but could represent 3 players working in unison anywhere on the park) that are to work together to press and win the ball. When the ball is won 3 times the 3 with yellow bibs swap 3 of the non-bibs.
The exercise focuses on the quick tranisiotn to BPO. When the ball moves to the other end of the area... The focus should be on the quickness of movement to shut the ball down and the collective pressing of the ball to prevent the ball moving between the ends (team task) Key individual roles/actions: - Quick movement to collectively press when ball is passed - Sticking to formation (what happens if everyone goes to the man?) - Who will be the player to press the ball directly? - What is the role of the other players? - What will happen if 1 guys is pressing and the others are backing up? - Player cues? - When the ball moves, reassess your positioning!
