Four defenders should remain compact throughout. If one defender puts pressure on the ball, the rest of the defenders should tuck it to keep shape compact. When the ball is out wide, the defenders should play with a side on body shape in order to step up or back up a team mate quickly. Defenders move from side to side using the ball as a focal point and keep their shape- pendulum like movement. One defender can step out from the box at one time, but only close down one attacker. This is to see the decision-making of the team. They shouldn't pressure when a player has the ball under control, but when before the recieve the pass so the pressure is immediate.
