Set up 3 teams of six and, if possible, one keeper. Set up cones to have the field the width of the 18 yd box and the length of half a pitch. Two teams attack as one against the third team. Play for 2 to 4 minutes and switch out defending team. Progress by having defending team clear to coach then they can attack with the team who lost the ball defending.
play a back four with two midfielders. force the attacking team to play sideways and backwards. every defender is covering a player and a passing lane (see ovals in sketch). attacking players pressing at top of box are double covered. players in box are not the threat. when ball is played back defenders need to move up and press higher.
