The practice is designed to show how it is beneficial to defend in the overload. The defenders start by passing into the atttacker. 1 defender starting outside of the area as a recovery run. Once the ball has been played by the defender his team mate can start his recovery run. The aim is for attacker to get across the defensive "goal" line.
Defender facing the attacker to press quickly to "delay" attacker progressing. This gives the recovering defender time to drop in. Recovery runner drops in as quick as possible to create the overload. Working as a pair to cover. If attacker beats pressing defender the cover defender presses and original defender recovers again to back in behind teammate.
