Community | Transition Rondo

Efrain Lara-Silva Coach, United Kingdom

DESCRIPTION

Set up a 40x20-yard field divided into three equal horizontal grids. Place 4 players in each grid. The center grid acts as the “pressing” zone, while possession takes place in one of the wide grids. In the active grid, 4 players work to keep possession in a rondo style, aiming for 5 consecutive passes. Once 5 passes are completed, the group attempts to switch play by passing into the opposite wide grid. As soon as the ball switches grids, the center group reacts—2 players immediately press, while 2 players drop slightly to cover passing lanes and block the switch-back option. If possession is lost, the losing team transitions quickly to press, sending 2 players to close the ball and 2 to screen behind. Play continuously, emphasizing fast transitions between attack and defense.

COACHING POINTS

React instantly when possession changes — quick transition mindset. Closest two press; next two cover passing lanes. Keep body shape open to see ball and next option. Pass with pace and accuracy to maintain rhythm. Communicate and stay compact when defending, wide when in possession.
