Passing Name Game

Very good interactive coaching drills.
Matt

DESCRIPTION

This game is used to work on passing and receiving, and at the same time, help players learn each other's name.

COACHING POINTS

SET UP:

  • approx 20x20m required. Can use cones, but not needed.
  • Up to 10 players in a circle. If there are more than 10, consider dividing into 2 circles.
  • 1 ball

INSTRUCTIONS:

Players will be receiving the ball from the player on the left of them and passing the ball to the player on the right.

Players will need to know the names of both players.

To start, have the players pass the ball in a clockwise direction. When the player with the ball receives the ball, the player that is to receive the ball calls the name of the player. Do not pass until the name is called.

Progression 1:

The players will still pass and receive from/to the same players, but they will now move around the grid.

It is important that they stay aware of the person with the ball and the person they will pass to.

Optional (time permitting): Mix up the circle so that players have to learn other names

Progression 2:

Movement is the same as progression 1, except after passing the ball, the passer will touch one of the outside cones and come back to be ready to receive the ball

Watch for players bunching and encourage movement.
