ive just taken over an under 16's side and the manager before was a 19 year old and let them get away with murder, ive tried throwing down ground rules, ive even shouted at them but it just doesnt work, the problem i am also 19 so they think because the last manager was a push over i will be the same, how do i control the team and stop the strops, attitude and negativity?
Hi Stephen,
Sounds like a tough situation as you are taking over mid-season and as you said, the players have become accustomed to having things their own way.
I've just gone through the questions archive and found these two answers which might be of help. Although they both relate to younger age groups I thought the answers would still be relevant and might help you with some ideas as to how to go about getting some discipline and respect back in your team:
Best of luck and I hope that the Sportplan users are able to provide you with some extra help and ideas as to how to get some positivity back into your team.

Hi Stephan,
I'am coach of U17, but murder at that age ?????
It seem the players are bored on training and try how far they can go to the trainer, which is nice rough. The only way to make them disciplined, by exercises that asks a lot of them, both physically and mentally. Drills where they constantly have to think. Drills where they have to work hard. Then you can make some sessions in which they are dependent on each other. As a result, they correct each other.
If successfull, you can introduce some strict rules such as cleanup de materials or cleaning the dressingroom. Every week an other person.
But it is quite important that you yourself are always consistent in everything you do. Remember that this is not arranged in 1 or 2 traning sessions. Your age is not important, only the quality counts.
Good luck, and let know if it was helpfull.
