deflect inside

Player on the free hit hits the ball hard slightly wide of the D for a player to move out with their stick to deflect the ball into the D for a shot or onto the foot of the covering defender.

Set Pieces

Deflection from the left post

Players set up as shown in the diagram. The ball is pushed out to the stopper at the top of the circle, who then proceeds to stop the ball and roll it into the circle. The striker then looks like they are going to shoot before hitting the ball to the left hand post for the injector to score.

Set Pieces

Double Move left then cross to far post

Players line up as shown in the diagram. The ball is pushed out to the top of the circle for the striker (Blue 3) to dummy over the top of the ball. The stopper then passes the ball to the left to Blue 5 who then passes to the injector who has made a lead in towards the goal before coming out to receive the ball. The injector then passes the ball to Blue 6 on the far post to deflect the ball in.

Set Pieces

Slip right and Strike

Players line up as shown in the diagram. The ball is pushed out to the stopper at the top of the circle. The ball is stopped and the striker moves in to pick the ball up off the stoppers stick and then passes the ball to the right to blue 6. They stun (stop) the ball for blue 4 to come in and strike the ball at goal.

Set Pieces

draw defence and pass

The player on the free hits starts to move to try and draw the defender to come out. As soon as the defender moves towards the ball the player passes the ball to the player moving out of the D to receive the ball just outside the circle. The player receiving lets the ball role on with the stick and shoots reverse or pulls the ball round to the forhand to get a shortcorner or to shoot with the forehand.

Set Pieces

Dummy Short Corner

Need 2 players with a good drag flick, first striker looks to drag flick but drags it square for second shooter to run onto it and drag flick from angle at goal. Goalie, should come out and plant feet ready for straight shot and not be ready for angled shot.

Set Pieces

England v Canada - German Variation

Players line up as shown. The ball is pushed out to the stopper at the top of the circle. They then move the ball to Blue five on the left slip. The ball is then passed to blue 6 who has run into the penalty spot, he / she then deflects the ball back for blue player 4 to run in and lift the ball over the goalkeeper.

Set Pieces

Free hit forehand add

Player on the ball waits for the player in the D to make a move with their stick outside the D for them to pass the ball hard onto the stick. Player receiving the ball adds to the pass and shoots reverse or pulls the ball inside to shoot forehand or get a shortcorner.

Set Pieces

Set Pieces

Set Pieces

Keep the space wide

Setup the practice as shown. Red 1 starts with the ball and gives a square pass to Red 2. This player passes the ball down the line for White 1 to run on to and receive the ball in the box, before carrying on to shoot at goal.

Set Pieces

Move left then strike

Players set up as shown in the diagram. The ball is pushed out to the stopper at the top of the circle. The main striker (Blue 3) runs over the top of the ball giving the impression they are going to strike the ball. The stopper moves the ball to the left for a strike (Blue 5). Players 1 and 6 move in to pick up any rebounds with player 4 staying slightly deeper.

Set Pieces

Open play short corner

Set up as shown in the picture. The ball is pushed out towards the top of the circle, but on this occasion the stopper dummies to stop the ball but leaves it for the player backing up (Blue 7). This player picks up the ball and passes the ball to the right (Blue 4), who in turn takes the ball into the circle to draw the defender before passing to the unmarked attacker (s) on either of the posts.
