DESCRIPTION

3rd Zone (Attacking Zone) - Build Attack

COACHING POINTS

Create and use width and depth Fullbacks or wingers stretch the field horizontally. One midfielder (or striker) provides depth by staying high, opening space. Build triangles and passing angles Players should position themselves to always offer two or three passing options to the ball carrier. Focus on body shape (open to the field) and anticipation. Support behind and ahead of the ball Always have a safe backward option (e.g., center backs or goalkeeper) and a progressive forward option (e.g., attacking midfielder or winger). Body orientation Players should receive the ball side-on, allowing them to see both the ball and the next option. First touch should set up the next action. Tempo and decision-making Vary the speed: slow to draw pressure, fast to exploit space. Recognize when to play short vs. when to play long. Attract and exploit pressure Encourage composure under pressure — draw opponents in to create space behind them. Quick circulation and switching play once pressure is committed. Goalkeeper involvement Modern build-up often starts with the GK as the “11th field player.” Key points: positioning outside the box, communication, and calm ball circulation. Positional rotation Encourage players (especially in midfield) to rotate and interchange positions to create confusion and space.
