The game is divided in 2 big zones, the Offensive and the middle one. The offensive zone is divided in 3 zones. Two crossing zones and the box. The drill begins with a 5v4 inside the middle zone. the attacking team has to keep possession in order to break the defense by dragging them close to each other and then find the free space by switching the orientation of the play. The objective of the defending team when recovering the ball is to stop it after the middle line. After finding the space, the player with the ball has to enter into the crossing zone in order to cross the ball inside the box. the four defenders who were inside the middle zone are not allowed to enter into the offensive zone. Inside the box, there is a 2v1 battle. the two attacking players have to find the right space after the cross and finish with a shot on goal. Variations The variation in this drill is very important. attacking players will be allowed to attack through the box if they want without having to pass through the crossing zone, the Change of orientation is still mandatory at least once before entering into the offensive zone. A system of points will be added to the defensive team. if they don't allow the attacking team to go through the middle into the box they will have 5 points. If they don't allow the attacking players go through the sides, they will only have 2 points. BY doing this, the defensive players will unconsciously play more compact to earn more points and the attacking team will have more space in order to change the orientation of the game.
Encourage players to change the orientation of play not only with a long pass but playing in a combinative way. Use small passes in one side of the pitch in order to draw defenders close and then create space for switching the orientation of the game.
