Instructions Set up 20 x 40 yd grid in the central area of the pitch. Red vs. Blue team. Designate 3 midfielders from each team. Offside rule applies in the final third. Midfield players are only allowed in the midfield central playing area. The ball must be passed into the central area at least once before a goal can be scored forcing good movement by the midfielders to help connect the field. Only the designated 6 midfield players are allowed in the central playing area. Key Coaching points Midfield players need to make good complimentary rotational movements in order to create space to receive a pass. Runs should balance the central area.Check deep, check wide, check high. Good movement is all about running into a team mates space and that team mate replacing your space, i.e. rotational positioning. This causes constant decision making by the defenders as to their defending roles in relation to the moving players. Look to play quick combinations. Limited touches to facilitate quick play in a tight central playing area.
