Instructions (Diagram 1 & 2): Using a 20x15yrd grid arrange 4 attacking players and 2 defenders. A half way line is placed half way between the two grids. The attacking team aims to maintain possession of the ball and play from one grid to the other grid (across the half way line). The defenders have 2 different roles. One is allowed to pressure the ball and attempt to intercept or win possession. The second defender defends the line and attempts to prevents passes going from one grid to the other. The second defender can only move up and down the half way line and cannot enter the grid, until the pass is passed into the other grid. Once the ball is passes across the line, two of the attacking players from grid can cross over to grid B to support the lone attacking player. (Refer to Diagram 2). Once the ball goes from grid A to grid B, the defenders switch roles. One pressuring players in the grid, and the other defending the line. (Refer to Diagram 2). Scoring: The attacking team attempts to make 3 passes into the opposite grid whilst maintaining possession. Players switch roles after 3 passes are made or after the defenders have won the ball 5 times. Coaching points: Look up before receiving a pass (can i play forward, if not where can I play the ball to keep posession?) Move the ball quickly. Look to play the ball forward when the opportunity arises. Support the forward pass to the other grid quickly to prevent a 1vs1. The front player has to work hard to open up channels. Progressions & Variations: 2 touch maximum by the attacking players. Increase the size of the playing area and have 3 defenders (one on the line and two active).
