Community | Playing wide with an overload in midfield

max langlands Coach, Scotland

DESCRIPTION

The attacking team(white) are attempting to create 5 passes in the small area while the reds are attempting to win the ball back. After completing 5 passes the whites can play out wide into the 2 wide players in the channels who will attack the 2 red defenders with the white striker, creating a 3v2 overload. If the reds win the ball before whites complete the 5 passes they counter with the 2 wide players creating a 4v3 over load. The 3 whites will then drop back and try to defend the 3 small goals

COACHING POINTS

Encourage playing wide and opposite winger making a back post run Encourage midfielders to play quick and first time if possible encourage defending midfielders too press but also keep shape to not be broken down easily progression- take away the box area and create a channel down the side of the 18yd box on both sides. Play just in one half with a goal either end. Add as many players as you can. Play a game but enforce playing out wide, this replicates a 433 with the 3 central midfielders and 2 high wingers. if the whites are to then win it, it would then almost replicate a 442 or a 343
