This is the current defensive runs we are seeing in the system when a full back is in a high position, our play breaks down and a ball is played forward into the vacated space from the full back.
The current runs we are seeing are;
1. One of the holding midfield two is running into full back area to cover.
2. One of the centre backs is being drawn out
3. The full back makes a straigh line run to get back into the full back position.
What this creats and what problems it creates
The main issue is we end up have three players make the same defensive run into the full back area where the striker has made their run into that space.
This leaves too much space in the middle from the holding player being drawn out into a deep wide area. Allowing space for a cut back for forward unmarked runners.
See the next animation for what we should see from this defensive recovery run.
