This is an idea for a field setup to build a practice around.
It is a field split un into thirds, and relates to how we want to play the game.
Progressions/Adaptations
Keep player's locked in zones to begin with
Could progress to no restriction to be locked in zones but players have to keep shape (rotational movement, covering etc.)
Use fullbacks/wingers as outside player to help keep the ball
One midfielder can drop into defence to create more of an overload or to receive the ball from the GK to feet as DF split
One defender can carry ball out of defence and overload the central area
Forward can drop into midfielder area to receive deep (trigger for wingers to push on higher and provide penetrative options and push defenders back)
Midfielders can combine and/or make runs into the final third to support the forward play
Must play off forward player to go through
Could add wide player's outside grid
Could taper end 1/3s to promote diagonal runs in-behind
Could split thirds into various zones
Vary numbers, spaces etc.
