Players are in threes. They are in a parallel line as shown, about 10 feet apart from each other with a cone at either end of each three, a further 10 feet from the end players. To start, Player 1 will pass to Player 2, Player 2 will then perform a turn and pass to Player 3, this then repeats going back the other way to P1.
First progression is short pass, long pass. P1 will pass to P2, P2 passes it back to P1, P1 will then pass to P3. P3 to P2, P2 to P3, P3 to P1, and the cycle continues. In both these variations, switch the middle player after one or two minutes so everyone gets a turn in the middle.
Final progression involves the cones on the outside. Same as the first drill - P1 to P2, P2 to P3. When P3 receives the ball, they will turn and dribble around the cone and back to their starting point. Whilst they are dribbling, P1 and P2 will switch positions - meaning P1 is now in the middle. The cycle continues, meaning that every player will be continuously moving and rotating into the middle position and also dribbling and passing on the ball too. A very well organised and simple drill to watch and play in.
20 minutes needed for this activity.
- Emphasis on accurate, short passes using the side foot.
- Emphasis also on communication amongst each other, especially in the final progression.
