DESCRIPTION

Coordination Dribbling (15 minutes):

  • Set up a square about 15m×15m using cones (do this before class starts)
  • Each student has a ball and dribbles around in the area. Emphasize the importance of keeping your head up and looking for open space.
  • Call out various commands (ie: right foot only, left foot only, insides only, outsides only etc) for the students to do.
  • Introduce “toe taps” and “ground juggles” (see the “warm-up touches” from http://www.strongsoccer.com/Kingdrills/clipspractice.htm#Scissors for more ideas)
  • Next, call out various body parts. When a body part is called, the students must use it to stop their ball (ie: “elbow!” or “knee!”). The students then get up again immediately and continue dribbling around.
  • Finally, stop the group have the students recall the turning fakes they just watched.
  • Have the students practice each of the moves a few times in the grid at their own pace.
  • Then, have them dribbling around in the grid again. The teacher then calls out one of the fakes, and the students must execute it and accelerate away in the opposite direction.
