Play: He is the middle child of a tricycle driver and a housewife. He grew up nearby an urban open dumpsite and played amongst the garbage and swimming in polluted water. He is often a victim of bullying on his neighborhood.
Believe: When he was 16 he started a youth group to divert the attention of the kids away from the street gangs and towards to community activism and personal development. It started around 20 members and called their group Dynamic Teen Company. Eventually they had an idea of the “pushcart classroom”, wherein push carts were stocked with school materials such as books, pens, tables, and chairs, and then used on Saturdays to recreate school settings in unconventional locations such as the cemetery or trash dump.
Achieve: He was nominated CNN Heroes by Club 8586 the youth group that financed his Elementary and High School education. Amongst the 9,000 nominees from 100 countries. Later on, he was named the CNN Hero of the Year for 2009. Upon returning to the country he was conferred the Order of Lakandula by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
