DESCRIPTION

Aim of the game os to play fom target to target (yellows in diagram)

2vs2

Can't pressure target players to begin with - possible progression later on, that tatrget players can be pressured

Progressions

  • adjust numbers - 3vs3, 4vs4, possibly even overloads/underloads to further challenge players
  • adjust size of grid accordingly.
  • Could begin this possession practice with unopposed passing from target to target.

COACHING POINTS

Pprinciples of Play - width, depth, support, movement, improvisation

Movement

  • Awareness, recognition, reaction, and exploitation of space.
  • timing of movement.
  • 7-1 movements - develop a mentality of patience when you move and don't recevie the ball. Understand that you will not receive the ball everytime you move. If you are stood still and havent' recevived teh ball for a couple seconds - move again.
  • Occupy space out of the eyeline of the DF- make movements out of the eyeline
  • double-movements, treble-movements
  • Arrival movements.
  • Iindividual movements to create space for yourself.
  • Movements to create space for each other. Rotation. How can you manipulate the DF to create space for yourself or your teammate? Can you change places with each other to rotate, confuse the DFs, and ulitmately get space to recive the ball to go forward?

Support

  • Where? Where is the pressure?
  • When?
  • How?
  • Talk about angles and distances in relation to ball and defender.
  • Can you try to position yourslef in a position far enough away from the DF that will allow you the time and space to get turned when you receive the ball. How does the distance you are away from the ball affect this?

Penetration

  • Can you recognise when you can play passes through DFS?
  • Can you recognise when you can make movements to allow these passes to happen?
  • Try to get behind them - when you can?
  • This is the most dangerous space?
  • Link this to movement and manipulation of the space and DFs

Width/Depth

  • Can you be make the space as possible? Can you be far enough away from each pther to cause problems for the DFs - but also be a passing option for each other when you have the ball.

Principles of possession

  • passing lines (options for the person on the ball
  • not being on the same passing lines (multiple passing options)
  • body orientation (Position body before you receive),
  • if a pass is not on - dont pass it (staying on the ball as an individual; How? When? Why?)
  • Position - pressure on ball dependent (If no pressure, can go further away to receive ball; if close pressure on ball, will have to come closer to offer support
  • Abiloty to change the speed of the game (1-touch, 2-touch, pressure dependent; the game should not look like it is being played at one speed)
  • Awareness - Why? When? How? Active and informed awareness?
  • Passing skills - technical aspects as per indivudal player - playing to correct, or better, foot. Send a message. A pass is a dual responsibility. Be considerate, and make the pass easier to perfrom teh next action.
  • Patience in possession - when needed . Go back and keep it and wait for an opportunity to go forward.
  • Receiving skills - as per individual player
  • link pictures and techniques to the game, and to the indivual position.
  • make it more positionally realistic

Changing the speed of the game

  • recognise when to speed it up and slow it down
  • Let movements develop when sometimes
  • Slowing the game down to wait and allow for movement to develop and/or player to be open
  • Pass it to a player when they are ready to receive it - dont pass it too quick if you dont have to.
  • 1-touch, 2-touch
  • depending on pressure

Receiving Lines

Before! During! After!

  • Before! During! Ater!
