DESCRIPTION

Organisation

  • Area marked out in a diamond shape. Size relevant to age and/or ability
  • 4 stations with a player at 3 stations and 2 players at 1 station. The first pass will come from the station with 2 players
  • One football

First player passes the ball to the player on his right and he follows his pass. Play continues going around the diamond. Flip the direction so they are working their other foot.

Progression:

  • Player receiving the ball has to check forward and touch the cone and check back to create space before receiving the ball
  • Mix the direction of the pass so it can go diagonal - straight across - diagonal - to straight down. This will create a mixture of left and right feet with the decision making on the players.

COACHING POINTS

  • Pass must be accurate with good weight and timing.
  • Player receiving the ball should give themselves space from the cone.
  • Receive the ball on the back foot (the foot furthest from the ball).
  • Open body shape to allow for the first touch to be out and to be able to scan the pitch in front of them.
