Running between wickets relay

DESCRIPTION

Teams:

  • Split the players into two or more teams, with an equal number of players in each team.

Setup:

  • Set up two wickets (or cones) about 20-30 meters apart, depending on space and the players' fitness level.
  • Each player should have a bat.

How to Play:

  • The first player from each team starts at one wicket, holding a bat.
  • On the signal, the player runs to the other wicket with their bat in hand.
  • When they reach the other wicket, they must slide their bat at the crease (the line where the wicket is) to “make their ground.”
  • After touching the crease with their bat, they run back to the starting wicket, where they must again slide their bat at the crease to complete the run.
  • Once they reach the starting wicket, they tag the next player in line, who repeats the process.

Objective:

  • The team must complete the relay as quickly as possible, with each player sliding their bat at the crease at both wickets.
  • The first team to have all players complete the relay wins.

Rules:

  • Players must always hold their bat while running between the wickets.
  • The bat must touch the crease at both ends to complete the run (no bat, no run!).
  • Players cannot cut corners — they must run the full distance between wickets.
  • If a player doesn’t slide their bat at the crease or drops the bat, they must go back and redo that part of the run.

Variation:

  • To add a challenge, you can make players run backwards or perform other movements (e.g., hopping) while holding the bat
