U14 level - Are there any drills for getting the goalie to decide whether to stay on 6 yard line or intercept the through ball
My advice is that if the striker is coming in on goal with his head down the keeper gets out and down to his feet quickly,if the striker is shaping up to shoot, the keeper needs to adapt the set position and ready for the shot, not coming out too far and risk a chip.
Thanks Darren, This situation happens a lot with the defence playing a high line for offside. With the keeper on the 6 yard line, this leaves a ~30-yard hole for the oppo to play the thru ball into, so I believe the keepers decision making in coming off the 6yard-line to tidy up is crucial.
