Some 11 year olds are joining our team and are moving from 7-a-side to 11-a-side. What should I practice with them to help this transition?
Hi Phillip, i am in the same position as your self, i started working on the off side rule but believe now they no the basics this will work itself over the season, i have been working more on shape as it supprising the difference from small sided to 11 aside, i first worked on a formation which for me im going to play 4 5 1 with a holding defensive midfield to break up play in the middle. i worked on the shape i want from kick off and from the GK so when we have the ball my players stretch the pitch as big as they can make by means of full backs and midfield players out wide near the line, but when we lose the ball the shape changes to close in the pitch as small as can make it. This has been far more success than trying to catch teams offside and the lads enjoy the coaching.
