Hi guys, I have an under 19 team that is full of very talented players, but they are lacking in strength. They are very good on the ball but struggle with shooting and 50/50s. What can I do to help them as they will be playing senior football next season?
Improving the strength of the players will help especially with the physicality of mens football. I wouldnt spend valuble training session doing weight training or press ups but I would encourage your players to get down to the gym because its a big physical step up. Have you thought about bringing older players into the team? A team full of 18 year old boys will find it hard to compete against a team with 25 year olds because they are fully grown men and most 18/19 year olds are still not fully devloped yet. For shooting if the players are technially gifted then its not what drills you do with them its a physicoligcal problem so give them confidence when they do good things in training praise them and the rest will come. Good luck with the change next season!
Maybe a couple of older heads will help the team.A leader type guy or two that the team can look up too.He will encourage the others and make other sides think twice about the age.Almost like a couple of father figures on the pitch.A role i thrived on personally.
