From Laying To Spiking

The player at the back of the court passes the ball to a setter and lies down. The setter then overhand passes the ball high before setting the ball up for the other player, who has now returned to his feet, to approach and spike the ball.

Spike Variety

Player 1 (the spiker) passes the ball to player 2 (the setter) who sets it up for the spiker to attack with the aim of landing the ball on one of the target mats placed in various positions on the court.

2 Player Set With Swap

In groups of 4, pair up and set the ball to each other. On the blow of a whistle, all players swap to the other side of the net, whilst continuing to set to each other.

3 Player Dig Set and Smash Drill

Feed to player 2 who defensive digs the ball to player 1 to set to player 2, who smashes the ball to player 3 who defensive digs the ball to player 2 to set to player 3.

Attacking Play Drill

This drill can be used as a base for a variety of attacks. Player 1 (acting as an opposition player), serves to player 3 who defensive digs to player 4. Player 4 sets the ball to player 2, who will have made an attacking run to meet the ball and smashes it over the net.

Baseline To Zone

Three players stand on one side of the court with a receiver on the other. One setter stands near to the net while another is one the baseline, and a spiker is on the wing. The receiver passes the ball to a setter who sets the ball up to the other setter and runs back to the baseline. The other setter now passes to the player on the wing and runs back to the baseline, while the spiker now hits a winner over the net before returning to the baseline.

Spiker aims to spike the ball in between the lines in zone 2.

Bounce And Dive

Players stand opposite each other with a mat in between them. One player starts with the ball and throws it up in front of them, before diving forward and digging the ball to their teammate. They should throw the ball so that their dive lands safely on the mate.

Dig and Overhead Pass Drill

A high feed to player 1 who defensive digs the ball to player 2 who sets the ball to player 3.

Player overhand passes the ball to a setter and digs their return spike. Then, a setter sets the ball for a spike.

Dive Off The Net

Players stand in pairs on the attack line, one player with a ball. That player throws the ball against the net, while the other player sprints forward, and dives to dig the ball up in the air.

Players work in pairs facing each other, and with a crash met by one of the players. The player opposite starts with the ball and underhand passes it to their teammate, who takes flight off of their front foot, and digs the ball at full force.

One Knee Dive

Players work in pairs facing each other, and with a crash mat by one of the players, who starts on one knee. The opposite player starts with the ball and underhand passes it to their teammate, who has to dive onto the crash mat and dig the ball back.

One Leg Passing

Players work in pairs with a ball between them. They underhand pass the ball to each other but while standing on one foot only. Players can move but can only do this by jumping on one foot, with the other in the air.

Pass And Toe

Players work in pairs with two balls between them. One ball starts on the floor with a player while the other ball is in the hands of the players opposite. The ball is overhand passes at the same time that the other ball is pushed by the leg of the opposite players.

Receive From Zone 6 and Spike

The player at the back of the court overhand passes the ball to a setter who sets it back to zone 6. The player receives the ball and plays it back to the setter with an overhand pass before receiving the ball in zone 4 to spike.
