Head Spring (Progressions)

Using a mid-level box or block the gymnast approaches off a short run and hurdle step on to springboard. Gymnast jumps into pike shape and supports place hands. Gymnast beats legs over head and pushes with arms. Supports aid gymnast to exit to feet. One support stands the other (taller) remains kneeling.

Knee on a low block or box and place hands and head to form triangle. Extend knees and raise legs to head stand. Keeping body straight topple over to land with flat body on crash mats.

Stand on low box or block and jump to inverted pike shape. As centre of gravity passes over beat vigourously upwards with straight legs. Push with arms. Land in long lie shape on crash mats.

Place low box near to crash mat. Approach box with small 'hurdle step' (one foot to two foot take-off) Jump off two feet to gain inverted pike shape. Hands and head making a triangle. As centre of gravity passes over head beat up with legs and push on arms. Land in 'long lie' position on crash mats.
