Gymnastics Drill Demonstration

Description

  • Gymnast stands on two section box or block.
  • Two supports kneel facing eachother preparing to place near hand to shoulder and far hand to small of back.
  • Gymnast rocks forward to pike shape and supports place hands.
  • Gymnast beats legs over head and pushes with arms.
  • Supports lift shoulders and small of back taking body weight.
  • Gymnast, with aid of supports, lands on feet on the crash mat.

    Coaching points

  • Gymnast must attain the pike shape prior to leg beat enabling the supporters to place hands correctly.
  • Supportors must lift shoulders and hips through flight.
  • If the gymnast goes through a 'forward roll' it is very difficult to support.
  • Supports must stay in contact throughout even after landing.
