Community | Skill Training - Running with the ball to create an overload

Evan Rees Coach, Australia

DESCRIPTION

Two halves with 3v3. Players may pass freely in their own half. To get the ball into the other half it must be run over the line - no passing across the line allowed. This will create a 4v3 overload. Only the player with the ball may cross the line. No other attacker or defender may follow him.

COACHING POINTS

Look for: - Looking beyond the ball - Scanning for space/team mates before receiveing the ball - Good first touch to start the run - Style of run (i.e. keeping ball close to player or playing ball out in front if space is available) Activity can be made more difficult by shrinking the space or by adding specific channels or gates (simulating a gap in the defense) that the players must run through to enter the other half.
